Online consumer spending in the US increased significantly during the first week of December, with a 91 percent increase from the USD1.4 billion spent during an average week in November.

The latest figures from Nielsen//NetRatings show that Americans spent USD2.6 billion online in the first week of December, with average consumer spending increasing six-fold from USD14 in the last week of November to USD91 in the week ending December 7th.
The ratings also show an increase in customer satisfaction among online shoppers with 45 percent of those surveyed reporting that they were very satisfied with their online shopping experience, an increase of 25 percent compared to last year.
Thirty-nine percent of online shoppers reported that they are in the middle of completing their online Christmas shopping, with 14 percent having started during the first week of December. Only 15 percent of all Americans have yet to begin their online holiday shopping, while the remaining 46 percent have finished for the season.
